Alpex Solar inaugurates 2.2 GW solar cell plant in Uttar Pradesh

The facility will manufacture G12R TOPCon solar cells and expand Alpex’s existing solar PV manufacturing capacity.

Homegrown renewable energy company Alpex Solar on Thursday announced the inauguration of a 2.2 GW G12R TOPCon solar cell manufacturing facility at Kosi-Kotwan Industrial Area in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, marking the company’s entry into PV solar cell manufacturing as part of its backwards-integration strategy.

According to the company's regulatory filing, the facility is spread across 9 lakh sq ft, and it is the first integrated TOPCon giga manufacturing line in Uttar Pradesh. It will manufacture G12R TOPCon solar cells and add cell manufacturing capacity to Alpex’s existing solar PV operations.

“Uttar Pradesh has emerged as an important destination for advanced manufacturing, and we are proud to contribute to the country’s growing solar ecosystem,” said Aditya Sehgal, Chief Executive Officer, Alpex Solar.

The company said the G12R TOPCon technology is designed to provide higher efficiency and power output. The new capacity is also expected to strengthen Alpex’s ability to cater to demand in the domestic solar PV market.

“This facility will strengthen our technology and manufacturing capabilities while enabling us to participate more meaningfully in India’s transition towards cleaner and more secure energy,” Sehgal added.

The expansion aims to build a more integrated solar manufacturing platform spanning cells, modules, and engineering, procurement and construction services.

Alpex also operates in solar pumps and aluminium frames.

Alpex currently operates manufacturing facilities across Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Its operations in Greater Noida are set to expand with five new manufacturing units across Greater Noida, Kosi-Kotwan and Madhya Pradesh. At the same time, construction at Kosi-Kotwan is being accelerated as part of the company’s ongoing solar cell and module capacity expansion.
