The Uttar Pradesh government has approved a new security and weapons procurement plan that includes deploying snipers at several key installations, including the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Metro facilities, the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), Lok Bhawan and the High Court.

According to News18, the newly sanctioned weapons and surveillance equipment will be provided to the Uttar Pradesh Special Security Force (UPSSF), which is responsible for securing several important establishments across the state.

The UP government has approved the purchase of three sniper rifles at a cost of Rs 10.76 lakh each. The state will also procure 14 telescope search mirrors to enhance surveillance capabilities at protected installations.

The procurement is being undertaken under the Police Modernisation Scheme.

Women’s PAC battalions

The government has also approved a separate weapons package for the newly formed women’s Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) battalions, stated the News18 report.

The three women’s PAC battalions will be equipped with 800 9mm submachine guns and 2.56 lakh rounds of ammunition at an estimated cost of Rs 5.59 crore.

Additionally, 373 pistols and 90 assault rifles will be procured for the three battalions, with around Rs 2 crore sanctioned for the purchase.

The state government has also decided to replace the ageing weapons currently issued to security personnel deployed with public representatives.

The latest procurement is part of a broader effort to modernise Uttar Pradesh’s police and security infrastructure. The plan includes upgrading the weapons and surveillance equipment used by security forces under the Police Modernisation Scheme.

The security upgrade at the Ram Temple comes amid an administrative restructuring at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.

Former Air Marshal Jeetendra Mishra, who headed the Western Air Command during Operation Sindoor, recently took charge as the trust’s chief executive officer and arrived in Ayodhya. He attended his first meeting with trust members and office-bearers, where he was briefed on the trust’s administrative, financial and accounting arrangements.
