Uttar Pradesh: Farmers demand hike in sugarcane price to Rs 600, timely cane payments - ChiniMandi

Hapur: Farmers in Uttar Pradesh have stepped up demands for a higher sugarcane price and timely payment of cane dues, with members of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (apolitical) staging a protest at the Hapur district collectorate on Wednesday, Bhaskar reported.

The farmers demanded that the sugarcane price be increased to Rs 600 per quintal and that sugar mills ensure payment of cane dues within the stipulated time. They said delays in payment were creating financial difficulties for farmers.

During the protest, the farmers also raised several other issues concerning land records and transportation. They demanded that the mutation process be completed within 35 days and sought early resolution of problems related to corrections in share details in land records.

The protesters also demanded action to stop alleged illegal collections from vehicles.

Farmer leaders warned that the organisation would intensify its agitation if farmers’ issues continued to be ignored. They said farmers would adopt a stronger approach if their demands were not resolved soon.

A large number of farmers and office-bearers of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Arajnaitik) participated in the protest.
