Home Minister highlights Uttar Pradesh’s growing investment ecosystem and its emergence as a key centre for industrial and economic growth.

Greater Noida, September 25: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah said that there was once an industry of crime operating in Uttar Pradesh, cottage industries of vehicle theft had come up in city after city, and illegal country-made pistols were being manufactured, but today, in that same Uttar Pradesh, a defence corridor is being developed in place of the country-made pistol industry, vehicle manufacturing is taking the place of vehicle theft, and a medical device park is being developed in place of chain snatching. This transformation has taken place under the double-engine government, and Uttar Pradesh is emerging as a major centre for investment from across the country and the world. The Union Home Minister was addressing the inauguration ceremony of the fourth edition of the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show (UPITS) at India Expo Mart in Greater Noida on Thursday.

UP moving towards becoming the country’s growth engine

Amit Shah said that in 2013, the situation in Uttar Pradesh was such that it was not possible to organise an industrial investment summit in Lucknow. Citing the law-and-order situation, officials had organised the event in Delhi. Today, the same Uttar Pradesh is moving forward towards becoming the country’s growth engine by emerging as a centre of investment. Law and order, a conducive industrial policy, an active government and the provision of necessary facilities to industries are essential for attracting investment, and all these conditions are present in Uttar Pradesh. As a result, the state has set the target of becoming a one-trillion-dollar economy.

Investment increasing in UP’s defence corridor

The Union Home Minister said that six nodes of the defence corridor are being developed in Jhansi, Chitrakoot, Lucknow, Agra, Aligarh and Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh. Investment is coming into these areas for the manufacture of defence equipment. The country’s defence production has now crossed approximately Rs 1.78 lakh crore, and defence product exports have increased 56 times compared to 2013-14. Today, India’s defence products are being exported to around 80 countries, with Uttar Pradesh also making a significant contribution. The Uttar Pradesh government has worked to facilitate investment through infrastructure and conducive policies along with the defence corridor. The AK-203 rifles manufactured in Amethi and the defence products being manufactured in Uttar Pradesh reflect the country’s new industrial capability.

ODOP has transformed the employment landscape

Amit Shah said that One District One Product (ODOP) has played an important role in increasing employment opportunities for the youth of Uttar Pradesh. Local products have been provided access to markets by promoting traditional industries and handicrafts. The youth of the state who once went to other states in search of employment are now finding opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship in their own state. Bhadohi’s carpets, Firozabad’s glassware, Saharanpur’s woodcraft, Kannauj’s perfume and Banaras’s silk sarees have established their identity across the country and the world. He expressed confidence that along with traditional products of UP, products such as Varanasi’s Malaiyo, Tiranga Barfi, Agra’s Petha, Mathura’s Peda and Meerut’s Gajak will also find a wider market.

UP International Trade Show to become a platform for global trade

The Union Minister said that the participation of buyers and entrepreneurs from across the country and the world in the fourth edition of the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show will increase the prospects for investment, production and sales in the state. The first edition was attended by the President, the second by the Vice-President and the third by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while he was pleased to participate in the inauguration of the fourth edition. More than five lakh people had participated in the 2025 Trade Show and more than 2,400 MoUs had been signed. It is expected that this year’s event will surpass all previous records. Congratulating Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the state government on the organisation of the Trade Show, the Union Home Minister said that Uttar Pradesh will continue to move forward in the direction of development in the same manner.
